2 new polls agree - "The Sky Is Not Falling."

So I guess that McCain + 5 Zogby poll can finally be put to rest now eh.

New CBS/NYT and NBC/WSJ Poll's agree that Obama is slightly ahead 45% - 42%

Some internals from the NBC poll:

McCain Advantages:

In handling terrorism: 51 - 23%

International crises: 52 - 27%

The War in Iraq: 46 - 36%

Obama Advantages:

Healthcare 48 - 27%

The Environment and Global Warming:  47 - 21%

(THE BIG ONE) Jobs and Unemployment: 47 - 25%

Improving the economy: 42 - 30%

On voter excitement, its:

McCain: 12% excited, 48% satisfied, 41% lesser of 2 evils
Obama:  45% excited, 36% satisfied, 18% lesser of 2 evils

Not bad eh?

Would post details on the CBS poll, but I gotta go watch the Olympics.....

Re: 2 new polls agree - (2.00 / 1)

I cannot understand how people trust McCain on the War in Iraq yet strongly support Obama's plan.  If 2006 showed us anything, it's that it helps to remind people of who's fault the Iraq occupation is.

Re: 2 new (2.00 / 0)

You have got to be kidding me.  We should be up by 10%.  The generic poll has dems up by 12%, bush
s appoval is at what 28%, and the right track wrong track is 25% plus and 70 wrong direction.  This is a no brainer democratic year and at best BO is up what a couple of percent.

McCain is an awful candidate and it the eleciton was held today it would be to close to call.  And with all due respecte when BO names a VP other than HRC his numbers are going to go down another 2% and stop now i am just saying what everone on this blogs knows to be true.

As they said on SNL " I cant belevie I am losing to this guy".

Re: 2 new (2.00 / 1)

According to the Poll, Half of the undecideds are Clinton supporters on the fence. After the convention, I am sure at leats 2/3'rds of those folks will come on board. Obama should see a 5-8% bump in the polls after that...

Well,

I hope that you are right and watching Clinton endorse BO on Wed will do the trick.

Watch Chuck Todd's explanation of the poll (2.00 / 3)

on Hardball; only half of Clinton supporters indicated to the pollster that he or she was voting for Obama.  A quarter have indicated they are voting for McCain and another quarter is undecided.

Todd indicated that this quarter of undecided former Clinton supporters aren't PUMA types; they are conservative dems who hate George Bush (only 12% of them approved of his performance) but love the Clintons and the 90s.  They agree that McCain will continue Bush's policies (77% overall believe so), but cannot stand Obama as well.  Half of the undecideds from the poll are conservative/Clinton dems.

Re: Watch Chuck Todd's explanation of the poll (none / 0)

That mirrors my position as well. i.e. in terms of the conservative dem angle..

If I got polled today , I would be undecided as well.

Some of Obama's support might be conditional on Clinton being picked as VP ( there could still be a perception out there among some of her supporters that she would be picked ) , we should put that into consideration and when she is not picked as VP there could be a drop in support for Obama too on that front.

We just don't know ....

Quite a number of hold out Clinton supporters ( more specifically conservative democrats) could use the cover of her not being on the ticket to vote against Obama.

Her speech in Denver most be very forceful in supporting and promoting Obama.

At least on the economy, that's good.... (2.00 / 1)

"Improving the economy: 42 - 30% "

That's a start, but we better start working that issue to death....

Can I stop hyperventilating into my paper bag now?

Sky Is Not Falling, but the water is rising (none / 0)

From the CBS/NYT report:

Republican John McCain has cut Democrat Barack Obama's nationwide lead in half, according to the latest CBS News/New York Times poll. Obama now has the support of 45 percent of registered voters, with John McCain closing in at 42 percent. The margin of error is three points.

Two weeks ago, Obama's lead over McCain was 45 percent to 39 percent. About one in four of each candidate's supporters say they could change their minds before Election Day.

Obama is unchanged but McCain has risen. Usually the candidate launching attack ads takes a hit, but the trend here is McCain making a rapid rise.

Re: Sky Is Not Falling, but the water is rising (none / 0)

McCain is now winning the majority of simulations on 538.com.  Obama was winning about 66% just two weeks or so ago.  That's a huge swing unfortunately.

Another bad indicator for Obama is the number of Poll related Diaries - up 13000% in just 2 days.

We have work to do (none / 0)

I would like someone to pose this question to the media or the pollsters.

In what country does a poll question ask, "Do you believe the Democratic Candidate is Patriotic Enough?

What a bullsh*t poll question. I call foul.
